Overview
Are you a mental health nurse, LD nurse, social worker, or occupational therapist with mental health experience? This is an exciting opportunity to join the new mental health team at HMP Millsike, a state-of-the-art, all-electric Category C men’s prison in Full Sutton, near York.
This role is ideal for registered professionals who want to broaden their psychiatric skills while delivering both urgent and planned care in a fast-paced, rewarding prison environment.
HMP Millsike houses up to 1,500 individuals and focuses on skills development for employment post-release, as part of the government’s strategy to reduce reoffending. TEWV is delivering mental health services here from April 2025.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver clinical assessment and interventions for people with complex needs
- Work within a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care and liaising with internal/external providers
- Develop person-centred care plans and deliver evidence-based interventions
- Participate in workforce development, clinical supervision, and competency frameworks
- Maintain Police Vetting compliance (spent & unspent criminal history, financial checks, social media; may extend to family/associates)
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RNMH), LD Nurse (RNLD), Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist with current registration
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience, with relevant preceptorship/competency framework completed
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy, ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
- Experience delivering mental health care in community settings
- Knowledge of the Offender Health pathway
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable:
- Leadership or management qualification
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area
- Experience in secure environments and mentoring students
- Competency in venepuncture and ECGs
Skills Required
- Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively
- Lead, monitor, and prioritise team activities
- Provide clinical supervision, teaching, training, and assessments
- Report writing and use of multimedia in professional presentations
- Use approved breakaway techniques where necessary
