 Overview

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is recruiting an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead a major histopathology transformation and automation programme aligned with NHS England’s digital pathology strategy. The role sits within the Digital IT (DIT) department, working exclusively on histopathology initiatives including ICE requesting, digital automation, and improved diagnostic workflows.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead complex digital transformation projects within histopathology
  • Apply professional project tools, methods, and delivery standards
  • Manage timelines, risks, documentation, and progress reporting

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and digital teams
  • Support workshops, workflow assessments, and requirements gathering
  • Drive change adoption and enable technology-supported working

Team Leadership

  • Manage and support a small project team
  • Coach and mentor junior project staff
  • Provide matrix-management for wider project contributors

Digital Transformation Delivery

  • Oversee deployment of digital tools such as:
    • Automated lab workflows
    • ICE order requesting
    • Voice-recognition and digital reporting
  • Implement new processes aligned with advanced digital technology

Business Case & Financial Oversight

  • Develop Business Cases to secure project funding
  • Manage allocated project budgets effectively and transparently

The Digital IT (DIT) Department delivers advanced digital solutions supporting one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK. The Cellular Pathology Department provides histopathology, cytology, and related diagnostic services, with ongoing transformation initiatives aimed at improving cancer turnaround times.
