 Overview

Amazon is hiring Software Development Engineer (SDE) Interns for 2026. This internship offers hands-on experience solving real-world problems using modern technologies in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

As an SDE intern, you’ll own the full lifecycle of your code—from design and development to deployment and operations—while being supported by experienced engineers, mentors, and managers.

 Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Amazon teams to design and build innovative products
  • Develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation
  • Build fault-tolerant, cost-effective distributed systems
  • Use and contribute to GenAI and AI-powered development tools
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues

A Day in the Life

You’ll be assigned a manager and mentor and given ownership of a meaningful project early on. Beyond technical work, you’ll engage in learning sessions, networking events, and intern community activities designed to support your professional growth.

Basic Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, or Perl
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and operating systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior technical internship experience
  • Experience with distributed systems and relational databases
  • Knowledge of optimization mathematics
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments
