Overview
Amazon is hiring Software Development Engineer (SDE) Interns for 2026. This internship offers hands-on experience solving real-world problems using modern technologies in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
As an SDE intern, you’ll own the full lifecycle of your code—from design and development to deployment and operations—while being supported by experienced engineers, mentors, and managers.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional Amazon teams to design and build innovative products
- Develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation
- Build fault-tolerant, cost-effective distributed systems
- Use and contribute to GenAI and AI-powered development tools
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues
A Day in the Life
You’ll be assigned a manager and mentor and given ownership of a meaningful project early on. Beyond technical work, you’ll engage in learning sessions, networking events, and intern community activities designed to support your professional growth.

Basic Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, or Perl
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and operating systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior technical internship experience
- Experience with distributed systems and relational databases
- Knowledge of optimization mathematics
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments
