 Overview

Aberystwyth University is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join the Planning and Governance – Data and Reporting Team. The successful candidate will help produce accurate staff and student data to support strategic decision-making and institutional performance management.

The role involves analysing institutional data, producing regulatory returns, developing data visualisations, and supporting university leadership with insights that improve planning, recruitment, and student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract, transform, and analyse internal and external datasets covering the student lifecycle and staff data.
  • Produce statutory and regulatory data returns, including HESA submissions and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct predictive analysis to identify risks affecting student retention and success.
  • Support financial and recruitment scenario planning for university strategy.
  • Develop and improve the student number planning model for forecasting accuracy.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and data visualisations for various stakeholders.
  • Coordinate data submissions for league tables and sector rankings.
  • Respond to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests with accurate data.
  • Support development and monitoring of institutional performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with academic and professional departments to improve data governance and reporting.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in university projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Support key events such as open days and graduation ceremonies.
  • Maintain compliance with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion across all work activities.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A degree in an analytical subject.
  • Strong experience with statistical or modelling tools (e.g., Excel).
  • Experience analysing and reporting complex datasets.
  • Experience producing statutory or regulatory data returns.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools and dashboards.
  • Understanding of database systems and data management.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical analysis skills.
  • Excellent organisation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple data projects.
  • Understanding of data protection and GDPR compliance.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Data Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • Experience in the Higher Education sector.
  • Experience with HESA student or staff data returns.
  • Proven involvement in projects where data led to process or policy improvements.
  • Welsh language skills (spoken and written).
