The Rotational Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer supports the pharmacy team across multiple areas including Dispensary, Aseptic Services, and Pharmacy Stores & Distribution.

The role involves assisting with medication dispensing, aseptic preparation, stock management, and providing excellent customer service to patients and healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

Dispensary
  • Provide a customer-focused service to patients attending the dispensary.
  • Dispense inpatient, outpatient, and discharge medications accurately.
  • Follow departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Use pharmacy computer systems to enter and manage prescription data.
  • Counsel patients on the use of outpatient medications when required.
  • Dispense Controlled Drugs using the Omnicell system.
  • Maintain accurate records and archive data according to guidelines.
  • Participate in weekend and late shift rotas within the 7-day operational model.
Aseptic Services
  • Assist in the preparation of aseptically produced medicines.
  • Support the supply of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).
  • Clean and disinfect isolators and the aseptic environment following SOPs.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring in aseptic services.
  • Prepare labels and documentation using pharmacy computer systems.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and hygiene protocols.
  • Assist with transfer disinfection and isolator procedures.
Stores & Distribution
  • Support the pharmacy distribution service.
  • Receive, check and unpack pharmaceutical deliveries.
  • Issue medicines to wards and departments following procedures.
  • Assist with ward stock top-ups after training.
  • Help investigate and retrieve products from automated pharmacy systems when required.
  • Support nursing staff with stock-related queries.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe, effective and economical use of medicines.
  • Support the development and improvement of pharmacy services.
  • Refer complex or non-routine queries to senior staff.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety.
  • Contribute to the Trust’s Green Plan by reducing waste and carbon emissions.
