Data Support Officer – Manchester City Council

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Manchester City Council as a Data Support Officer within the Performance, Research and Intelligence (PRI) department.

PRI Overview

The PRI function supports all areas of the council’s corporate plan by providing:

  • Data governance
  • Research and intelligence
  • Data analysis and performance monitoring

The department is divided into three teams:

  • People
  • Place
  • Core (where this role is based)

Your Team

The role is within the Address Management team (under the Core team), working closely with another Data Support Officer and supervising a Data Support Assistant and Business Administration Apprentice. You’ll report to the Senior Data Officer.

The team’s responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the Local Land Property Gazetteer (LLPG) and Local Street Gazetteer (LSG) which feed into the National Gazetteer
  • Handling the Street Naming and Numbering (SNN) statutory functions
  • Ensuring compliance with British Standard BS7666 and national regulations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and updating address databases
  • Processing address/street name applications
  • Consulting with stakeholders (e.g., Royal Mail, communities)
  • Notifying external bodies of address changes
  • Resolving address anomalies
  • Developing SNN policies

 About the Candidate

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, enthusiastic, and assertive, with a strong understanding of the Our Manchester behaviours.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of address legislation (e.g. GeoPlace standards)
  • Experience with database management
  • Proficiency in Gazetteer Management software
  • Spatial and geographic awareness

  • Great attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational abilities
