Job Description
Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Optical Analyst to join the Optical Team working on Earth Observation Payloads.
Role Description
You will support the optical design, analysis, and tolerancing of advanced space optical instruments using ZEMAX and FRED. This includes stray-light analysis, optical ray-tracing, and performance validation tasks.
Key Tasks
- Design and analysis using ZEMAX (ray-tracing) and FRED (stray-light)
- Support evaluation of various optical configurations
- Update optical models with as-built component data
- Perform performance validation and system verification
- Contribute to technical documentation and design reviews
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and project teams
Person Specification
Experience:
- 3–5 years in optical analysis and instrumentation (preferably in space)
- Hands-on experience with low volume, high-tech manufacturing
- In-depth understanding of optical engineering in aerospace
Knowledge & Skills:
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Optics
- Essential: Proficiency with ZEMAX and FRED
- Experience with optical components and materials
- Programming knowledge: MATLAB / Python / C
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
