Overview
We’re looking for an Apprentice Desktop Support Officer to join the IT Department. This role will support high-quality IT services across the Trust.
Key details:
- You will work within the Desktop Support Team to deliver 2nd and 3rd line support
- Band 2 for 18 months during qualification
- Progress to Band 3 after successful completion
- This is a development role with continuous learning opportunities

Main Duties
- Provide first and second-line support to over 16,000 users
- Maintain and support desktop PCs, laptops, and peripherals across a large network
- Support IT equipment linked to diagnostic/treatment systems (e.g., Lab Analysers, Linear Accelerators)
- Install, configure, and repair devices and software
- Maintain accurate IT records and asset tracking
- Assess safe workstation setup before installation
- Provide basic user training during system installations

Qualifications
Essential:
- 5 GCSEs (A-C/9-4), including ICT, Maths, and English
- Level 2 Functional Skills accepted
Desirable:
- Level 3 or BTEC/A-Level qualification
- Relevant IT certifications
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Basic understanding of application installation/configuration
- Familiarity with Microsoft operating systems
Desirable:
- Basic networking knowledge
- Experience with PCs and peripherals
- NHS systems awareness
- Service desk familiarity
- 1st/2nd line desktop support experience
Skills & Abilities
Essential:
- Strong IT and keyboard skills
- Effective verbal and written communication

- Ability to work independently
Desirable:
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
