About the Role

The Office for Students (OfS) is the independent regulator of higher education in England. We ensure every student has a fulfilling experience in higher education, regardless of background. Our new Analytics & Data Engineering team is transforming how we handle data, moving from legacy on-premises platforms to Azure Databricks to unlock automation, innovation, and AI capabilities.

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to help build reusable pipelines, deploy AI models, and support the development of robust data products. This role will be central to enhancing our data capabilities and supporting evidence-led decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and develop reusable pipelines for analytics and AI projects
  • Drive innovation within the data platform for efficiency and detailed insights
  • Manage relationships between IT and Data teams to grow platform capabilities
  • Deploy AI models with automated monitoring from pipeline to outputs
  • Extract, Load & Transform (ELT) datasets from various sources
  • Monitor workflows, mitigate risks, and maintain data governance standards
  • Develop coding standards for Python across the Data function
  • Apply dimensional data modelling concepts to improve business operations

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong Python programming knowledge (Pyspark experience desirable)
  • Experience with Azure Databricks platform
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and able to work flexibly
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with modern data stack and methodologies
