About the Role

We are looking for an HPC Cloud Engineer (official title: Research Infrastructure Engineer) to join our Research Computing team at the University of Bath.

You will play a central role in developing, maintaining, and supporting our High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Research Storage services, ensuring researchers have access to robust, innovative, and high-performing digital infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and support HPC and research storage services.
  • Design, script, code, test, and document bespoke systems and interfaces.
  • Provide technical advice, training, and support to the University’s research community.
  • Lead change management processes, assess risks, and oversee system upgrades.
  • Represent the University in national HPC networks and outreach activities.

About You

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge and experience administering Linux servers (plus familiarity with Windows).
  • Experience with HPC job schedulers such as SLURM, PBS, or IBM LSF.
  • Understanding of HPC technologies, provisioning, and low-latency interconnects.
  • Scripting and coding ability in Bash, Python, SQL.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Understanding of parallel programming methodologies.
  • Experience designing and delivering training.
