About the Role
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is seeking an Application Developer to support the development of the Greener Trials Toolkit — an innovative online, open-access digital carbon calculator for publicly funded clinical trialists.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining back-end systems, designing databases, and contributing to project planning and implementation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project at one of the world’s leading cancer research institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement back-end systems and APIs using C#/.NET.
- Design and maintain relational databases (primarily MS-SQL).
- Contribute to web application functionality requirements.
- Participate in project meetings and planning sessions.
- Support ICR-CTSU’s wider IT programming initiatives.
Key Requirements
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Strong programming skills with proven experience in C#/.NET development.
- Good understanding of relational database systems and secure coding practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of clinical trials and/or carbon footprinting is desirable.
Department Overview
The successful applicant will join the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials & Statistics Unit (ICR-CTSU) based at ICR’s Sutton site in Surrey. The ICR-CTSU manages a diverse portfolio of national and international clinical trials focused on breast, urological, and head & neck cancer treatments.
