About the Role
Join the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC) at The University of Western Australia (UWA), where cutting-edge AI research meets real-world impact. The RoadSense Analytics (RSA) project is a next-generation video analytics platform for traffic analysis, built on over seven years of R&D. Backed by the AEA Innovate Grant, this project is entering its most exciting phase—bringing advanced AI to market through a secure, scalable, cloud-native Software as a Service (SaaS) platform.
This is a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between academic innovation and commercial deployment, where your work directly improves:
- Road safety by detecting near misses and reducing crashes
- Traffic efficiency by cutting congestion and improving flow
- Transport system performance through better, data-driven planning
You’ll work with a small, agile team including a solution architect, a UX/UI designer, a frontend-focused full-stack developer, and AI/ML researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead backend development for a scalable, secure, multi-tenant video analytics platform (APIs, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure).
- Collaborate with the Solution Architect to evolve backend architecture and take on architectural responsibilities.
- Develop robust backend services integrating real-time AI/ML inference.
- Support DevOps practices and ensure seamless cross-team collaboration.
About You
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of backend development experience using Python, Node.js, or Go.
- Proven experience in software/system architecture (SaaS or data platforms).
- Proficient in AWS, Azure, or GCP, with experience in cloud infrastructure provisioning.
- Strong understanding of API development, authentication/authorization (JWT, OAuth2), and cloud-native environments.
- Familiar with DevOps, CI/CD, and container orchestration.
Note: Occasional interstate or international travel may be required.
Salary and Benefits
