Job Description

Jisc’s Security Division, part of the Group CTO, protects UK Education and Research from cyber threats and supports institutions in improving digital resilience. The Architecture and Engineering team delivers specialised infrastructure, including:

  • Robust data centres
  • National DNS and time services
  • Cloud solutions and secure network systems

About the Role

You will be essential to the maintenance and development of critical services within the DNS and Network Time group. This role directly influences the strategic direction of Jisc’s cybersecurity operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance cybersecurity platforms and applications
  • Monitor and audit systems for optimal performance
  • Ensure compliance with SLAs
  • Provide second-line support for hosted services
  • Implement patching, threat detection, and infrastructure reporting

Key Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in Linux or Windows server administration
  • Hands-on experience with DNS technologies (e.g., BIND, Unbound, PowerDNS, Infoblox)
  • Knowledge of scripting/programming (PHP, Ruby, Java, Python, Bash, Golang, C, Perl)
  • Familiarity with backend databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)

Desirable:

  • Networking experience
