Data Analyst – Band 5
Location: Worthing or Brighton Hospitals, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
Salary: £31,049 – £37,796 per annum pro rata
Contract: Permanent, Full-time

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, providing high-quality analysis to support the planning, delivery, and improvement of healthcare services.
You will play a leading role in developing and delivering responsive information and analysis services, working closely with clinicians, managers, and external stakeholders. Your insights will help shape decisions with significant impacts on finance, service delivery, and resource allocation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and deliver analytical reports and dashboards for the Clinical Outcomes and Effectiveness Portfolio (including NICE Guidance, national audits, GIRFT, and mortality indicators).
- Liaise with clinicians and managers to identify information requirements and design effective reporting solutions.
- Analyse complex datasets, identifying trends, exceptions, and areas for improvement.
- Lead on data submissions, performance monitoring, and compliance with national/local standards.
- Present analytical findings to varied audiences, tailoring communication style as needed.
- Support service improvement initiatives and contribute to strategic planning.
- Maintain high data quality standards and ensure information governance compliance.
About You – Essential Criteria
- Degree (or equivalent) in a numerate subject, or GCE A-level equivalent.
- Experience in information management or data analysis.
- Skilled in querying databases using SQL and/or reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects).
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to distil insights from complex datasets and develop practical solutions.
- Capable of working independently and building effective working relationships.
Desirable:
- NHS or similarly complex organisation experience.
- Dashboard development experience.
- Project management exposure.
- Knowledge of NHS information requirements and flows.
