About the Role

Due to continuous growth, we are seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Data Analyst – Payments Specialist to drive data-led insights and support our payments strategy during a critical expansion phase.

As a fast-growing B2C company with a strong presence in the US and European markets, we are focused on scaling our brand, optimising payment performance, and enhancing fraud prevention. This role requires a strong analytical mindset and a deep understanding of digital payment ecosystems, transactional data, and customer behaviour.

You will play a key role in analysing payment trends, identifying inefficiencies, preventing fraud, and enabling data-driven decision-making across our payments and risk operations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, prioritise, and document anomalies in payments data and fraud patterns to support rapid issue resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Use advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, IF conditions) to analyse payment transactions, identify unusual behaviour, and support reconciliation efforts.
  • Ensure data accuracy across payment systems by validating transaction records and flagging inconsistencies or suspicious activity.
  • Identify trends in payment failures, chargebacks, and fraud attempts to drive process improvements and reduce financial risk.
  • Implement consumer data acquisition strategies and e-commerce analytics with a focus on optimising payment funnel performance and detecting fraud signals.
  • Build and apply consumer segmentation and profiling models to detect high-risk behaviours and improve fraud prevention tactics.
  • Respond to data analysis requests from fraud teams, compliance, finance, and operations with a focus on payment performance and fraud detection insights.
  • Retrieve, clean, and prepare transactional data for deep analysis of payment patterns, fraud triggers, and refund behaviours.
  • Contribute to daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reporting on payments KPIs, fraud rates, authorisation success rates, and risk events.
  • Perform in-depth analysis on large volumes of payments and fraud-related data using advanced techniques to extract actionable insights.
  • Define and enforce data quality standards specific to payments and fraud monitoring systems.
  • Maintain expertise in analytics tools and practices relevant to payments processing, fraud detection, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, risk, and business intelligence teams to embed data quality controls.
  • Create and optimise metrics and dashboards to monitor payment success, fraud incidents, transaction declines, and risk thresholds.
  • Communicate key insights on payment performance and fraud trends to stakeholders.
  • Research discrepancies in payment data and correct records to ensure accurate transaction histories.
  • Monitor real-time analytics dashboards for drops in payment success rates or spikes in fraud indicators.
  • Review and act on data control alerts related to payment processing, chargebacks, and fraud scoring models.
  • Continuously analyse payment flows to detect fraud attempts, reduce false positives, and improve approval rates.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Analyst in payments, fraud, or transactional data.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with large datasets and relational databases.
  • Proficient in BI/reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and Excel.
  • Solid understanding of digital payment systems, chargebacks, fraud indicators, and PSPs.
  • Experience with data modelling, ETL processes, and data quality best practices.
  • Familiarity with Python, R, or statistical tools (SPSS, SAS) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive, well-organised, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Computer Science).
