About the Role
Vanguard is hiring a Data Engineer (Specialist) to deliver advanced data solutions that support high-quality, secure, and scalable data pipelines. You will work closely with senior data engineers to process, store, and serve data that enables meaningful insights for internal stakeholders. This role is ideal for early-career data engineers looking to grow their technical and analytical skillset within a collaborative, mission-driven organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain ELT data pipelines from source to presentation
- Test data quality and optimise data availability
- Ensure pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure
- Write clean, readable, and high-quality code
- Support code reviews, automated testing, and documentation
- Collaborate with developers, Scrum Master, and Product Owner
- Own deployments across development, test, and production environments
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
- Continuously improve technical standards, tools, and processes
Skills & Experience Required
- 1–2 years’ experience as a Data Engineer or related role
- Strong experience with Python and SQL
- Experience working in a cloud-based environment (AWS preferred)
- Data transformation using PySpark, Pandas, or similar tools
- Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or CloudFormation
- Understanding of testing, code quality, and development best practices
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or related field (preferred but not required)
