Overview

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. Within the Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group, the Forensic Information Databases Service (FINDS) manages key forensic systems, including:

  • The National DNA Database (NDNAD)
  • IDENT1 (fingerprints)
  • The National Footwear Database

We are seeking a Data Reconciliation Analyst to ensure the integrity and accuracy of these national forensic records. Your work will directly support the criminal justice system and contribute to public safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse data across the NDNAD and the Police National Computer (PNC) to identify and investigate discrepancies
  • Produce investigative reports with recommendations for corrective actions
  • Implement amendments to maintain accurate DNA and identity records
  • Work with police forces, forensic experts, and key stakeholders to resolve anomalies
  • Advise on biometric data retention and legislation (PoFA 2012, PACE 1984)
  • Support responses to Parliamentary Questions and FOI requests
  • Contribute to the transition from PNC to the Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS)

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

  • Completed Police National Computer (PNC) course qualification
  • In-depth experience and current working knowledge of the PNC
  • Knowledge of the NDNAD
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills in forensic or policing data contexts
  • Accurate and diligent record-keeping for audit purposes
  • Understanding of relevant law enforcement policies and legislation

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience in regulated environments (forensic science, law enforcement, or government)
  • Knowledge of public service operations and performance metrics
