About the Role

As Deputy Data Protection Officer, you will play a leading role in the Information Compliance Team, supporting the University’s compliance with data protection and freedom of information legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on managing personal data breaches and regulatory policy.
  • Support university-wide data protection strategy.
  • Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop policies, guidance, training, and improvement programmes.
  • Oversee incident response and support DPIAs.
  • Manage and develop a team of specialists.
  • Contribute to broader Assurance Directorate initiatives.

Essential:

  • Extensive knowledge of UK and EU data protection law.
  • Experience managing data breaches, FOI, and SARs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead policy and strategy in complex organisations.
  • Team leadership and continuous improvement experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in higher education, legal, or regulatory sectors.
  • Relevant professional qualifications.
