About the Role

Position: Director of Technology – NW1 2DB, London
The Alan Turing Institute is the UK’s national centre for data science and artificial intelligence, named in honour of Alan Turing. We are looking for an exceptional technology leader to oversee the delivery of our scientific missions and technical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain an effective operational model to support delivery of science and innovation missions.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership including the CEO, Chief Scientist, and Mission Directors to deliver on strategic goals.
  • Develop strong technical delivery teams, set technical standards, and drive the adoption of best practices.
  • Build senior-level partnerships and stakeholder relationships to support delivery outcomes.
  • Oversee compute resource planning, financial strategy, and risk management for the technology directorate.
  • Lead, support, and develop team heads; promote a culture of curiosity, technical excellence, and high performance.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in technology, science, or engineering with continued professional development.
  • Experience leading complex technical teams in research, academia, or innovation-driven organisations.
  • Strong track record of project delivery in software engineering, computational infrastructure, or programme management.
  • Proven ability to build external relationships and work with senior-level stakeholders.
  • Experience implementing strategic change, quality assurance, and compliance processes.

  • Salary: Starting from £120,000 per annum
