Facilities Domestic Assistant – Evening Role
The Birmingham Children’s Hospital Facilities Department has a vacancy for a Domestic Facilities Assistant. The post holder will undertake a full range of cleaning duties in our busy children’s hospital. Experience is preferred but not essential – full training will be provided.

Duties
- Work in any hospital area as assigned by Domestic Supervisors
- Perform duties as per standard operating procedures
- Clean infected cubicles upon request
- Operate domestic mechanical/electrical equipment safely
- Handle kitchen duties and wash patient crockery/cutlery
- Replenish disposable materials (e.g., soap, towels)
- Collect and dispose of waste per policy
- Adhere to all Facilities Services policies
- Maintain high standards of cleaning
- Store chemicals and equipment safely
- Follow ward/location-specific cleaning schedules

Qualifications
- (Desirable) NVQ Level 1 or 2 in a relevant cleaning discipline
Knowledge/Experience
- (Essential) Understanding of role and procedures
- (Desirable) Previous cleaning or NHS experience
Skills
- (Essential) Ability to:
- Bend, kneel, crouch, and twist
- Lift and handle equipment (with/without aids)
- Make repetitive movements
- Operate cleaning machinery
- Push/pull trolleys
- (Desirable) Knowledge and experience in:
- Cleaning materials and COSHH
- Manual handling techniques
- Basic numeracy and literacy for task completion
- Responding appropriately to communication and issues
