About the Role
Tracer is hiring a Founding AI Engineer (Staff) to own the core architecture behind agentic alert investigations for production data pipelines.
You’ll build an AI agent that:
- Investigates production alerts
- Produces grounded Root Cause Analyses (RCA)
- Suggests fixes while keeping humans in control
This is a high-ownership, hands-on leadership role at the center of product development.

Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build the alert → investigation → RCA pipeline
- Design alert ingestion and normalization systems
- Implement context enrichment and correlation engines
- Develop hypothesis orchestration and investigation runtime
- Build investigation artifacts and reporting systems
- Ensure observability, auditability, and reliability from day one
- Ship high-value alert types before scaling coverage
- Build customer-ready integrations
- Set technical standards for future hires
Requirements
- 5+ years (ideally 10+) professional software engineering experience
- Strong backend and distributed systems expertise
- Experience with data platforms, production pipelines, or observability tooling
- Proven record of shipping real products
- Startup experience preferred
- High ownership mindset and strong product instincts
