Job Summary
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking a Head of Digital Datacentre Services to lead a dedicated team responsible for delivering dependable datacentre services. This senior role covers the full spectrum of technical responsibilities required to support the Trust’s systems and service operations.
The successful candidate will manage datacentre infrastructure (servers, networks, storage) while embracing cloud technologies and acting as the design authority for datacentre management. This position involves close collaboration with senior leaders, clinical teams, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance & Maintenance: Ensure datacentre operations meet industry standards, including compliance and security.
- Technical Expertise: Provide hands-on technical support, training, and mentorship to the digital services team.
- Architectural Strategy: Develop datacentre strategy covering on-premise and cloud environments.
- Sustainability & Adaptation: Lead the long-term evolution of datacentre services in line with technology and Trust strategy.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clinical and managerial stakeholders to develop and deliver technical solutions.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
- Master’s degree or equivalent senior-level experience
- Microsoft certifications
- VMware qualifications
- ITIL qualification/experience
Desirable:
- ITIL Practitioner
- Cloud certifications
- Prince2 / Project Management qualification
Experience (Essential):
- 3+ years managing datacentre support teams at enterprise scale
- Hands-on experience with server environments and enterprise IT services
- Expertise in VMware, SANs, Citrix, Microsoft infrastructure, SCCM, AD, Exchange
- Proven experience working with third-party suppliers
Desirable:
- NHS IT environment experience
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN concepts
- Cloud service provider management
Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication across technical and senior audiences
- Ability to handle complex, sensitive, and contentious information
- Decision-making under pressure with accountability
- Proven ability to manage and motivate teams
