This role sits within the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC), part of the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease at the Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The centre works closely with the and is funded in part by .

Rare Dementia Support (RDS) is a UCL-led collaborative service offering specialist social, emotional, and practical support to individuals affected by rare dementias, including atypical, inherited, and young onset forms.


About the Role

You will join the Rare Dementia Support direct support team, providing:

  • Advice and support via calls and in-person at the Rare Dementia Support Centre
  • Specialist guidance to individuals living with rare dementias
  • Support for carers, families, friends, and professionals
  • Contribution to new support groups and professional training initiatives
  • Involvement in patient and public engagement (PPI/E) projects

Occasional Saturday and evening work required.
Some off-site work in central London may be necessary.
Immediate start, funded until 31 December 2026.


About You

Essential criteria include:

  • Honours degree (or equivalent) in a health-related discipline
  • Experience delivering pre-, peri-, and post-diagnostic rare dementia support
  • Expert knowledge of atypical, inherited, and young onset dementias
  • Strong understanding of UK health and social care systems
  • Ability to manage complex needs of patients with degenerative conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience communicating highly sensitive information
