Overview

Cambridge University Press & Assessment is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join its English Engineering team. This role is ideal for a senior full-stack developer who thrives in building modern, scalable eLearning platforms using TypeScript and ReactJS, while also mentoring and leading engineers.

You’ll play a key role in shaping technical direction, architectural standards, and high-quality software that supports learners and educators worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical solutions and contribute to architectural best practices
  • Design and build complex web applications (primarily TypeScript)
  • Maximise use of AWS cloud services
  • Lead and participate in paired programming and code reviews
  • Mentor up to two software engineers
  • Work closely with UX, Product, QA, Architects, and stakeholders
  • Champion agile development practices
  • Support testing strategies and robust software delivery
  • Contribute to technical requirements and product vision

About You

  • 7+ years’ experience in full-stack development
  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (Python or Java desirable)
  • Deep understanding of software architecture and best practices
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies
