Overview
To assist in the management and education of children and young people with Additional Support Needs (ASN).
A Learning Support Worker may be required to work with individual children or groups of children with severe and complex additional support needs, either within specialist departments or mainstream classes. The role involves working alongside teachers and following guidance based on an Individualised Education Programme (IEP).
The post holder may also work with professionals such as Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Child Psychologists.

- 3 Permanent Part-Time posts – 30 hours per week
- 1 Permanent Part-Time post – 17 hours per week
- 2 Temporary Part-Time posts – 30 hours per week (until 16 August 2026)
Working pattern includes 39 weeks per year plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday, to be taken during school holidays.
Grade and Contract Information
- Grade G/H
- This post is not career graded
- Appointment will be made as either a Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Worker following assessment against the person specification
- Salary and duties will depend on qualification status

- Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required
- Flexible working arrangements will be considered
- Interview expenses will be paid for candidates within Shetland
- Two references are required and must not be from related persons

About Anderson High School
Anderson High School is a six-year secondary school serving the Shetland community and associated primary schools. Pupils from Fair Isle and Foula attend the school, and it serves all Shetland pupils for S5 and S6, except those attending Brae High School.
As of August 2024, the school had 1,028 enrolled pupils.
