About the Role
The reaches 94% of UK adults each month through its online and offline services. As a Principal Data Analyst, you will lead high-impact analytics initiatives that shape strategic decision-making across major BBC services including , , , and BBC Sounds.
You will work with large-scale analytics, metadata, and third-party datasets to generate actionable insights about audience behaviour and preferences. This is a leadership-level analytics role requiring both technical excellence and stakeholder influence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead large-scale data analytics and insight projects
- Deliver analytics requirements across cross-functional teams
- Build dashboards and self-serve visualisation tools
- Improve and maintain data tools, pipelines, and automation processes
- Integrate third-party datasets into internal systems
- Communicate compelling insights to senior stakeholders
- Mentor and support junior analysts
- Act as a subject matter expert for analytics queries
- Maintain documentation and knowledge hubs
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong background in data analytics
- Advanced SQL and proficiency in Python or R
- Experience with large data warehouse environments (e.g., AWS Redshift, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure)
- Expertise in data visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker)
- Ability to translate complex data into business insights
- Experience working with non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving mindset
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

- Interest in BBC services
- Experience with digital analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Piano Analytics)
- Experience mentoring or line-managing junior analysts
