About the Role
UWE Bristol is seeking a collaborative and innovative Research Software Engineer to join the UKRI-funded MED-SHED project: Machine-learning-based EEG Decision Support; pioneering Social Enterprise for Health Data.
You will:
- Develop a decision-support tool to help clinicians interpret EEG data efficiently
- Collaborate with NHS South West Secure Data Environment to build pipelines for secure NHS neurophysiology datasets
- Train and validate deep-learning classifiers on real NHS data
- Spend ~1 day per week on-site at North Bristol NHS Trust, shadowing neurophysiologists to translate clinical needs into usable prototypes
This role provides unique exposure to the growing health data landscape in the South West and offers opportunities to collaborate with leading academics and NHS data professionals
About You
Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- Strong hands-on experience in Python software development
- Proficiency in Machine Learning for time-series or signal processing (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX)
- Experience with collaborative development tools (GitHub) and data visualization
- Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for clinicians and patients
Desirable:
- PhD or equivalent in a computational subject
- Experience with data engineering at scale (ETL pipelines, SQL) or MLOps
- Knowledge of biomedical signal processing (especially EEG)
- Understanding of information security, data privacy, or NHS DTAC standards
