The University of Bath is seeking a Research Systems Developer to support and develop the systems, tools, and infrastructure that underpin computational research in the Department of Computer Science.
This is a hands-on role where you will build, adapt, and improve systems to meet the evolving needs of researchers working in areas such as artificial intelligence, simulation, embedded systems, and high-performance computing.
You will join a small, growing team of technical staff, working closely with researchers to understand their requirements and provide practical, maintainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software to automate system configuration and research workflows
- Support high-performance and GPU-enabled computing environments
- Integrate open-source tools
- Create and maintain bespoke tools and scripts to support research
- Advise researchers on technical approaches, system use, and best practices
About You
You are a developer or systems engineer with a passion for software development and research computing. You write clear, reliable code and enjoy solving technical challenges involving software, systems, and user needs.
Essential Skills:
- Strong Linux experience, plus confidence in Windows
- Experience with at least one programming/scripting language (Python, Bash, C++)
- Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Docker)
- Interest in supporting research or scientific computing
- Collaborative and methodical work style
