Overview
As a Senior Data Architect, you will play a key role in transforming UKHSA’s data landscape. You will design sustainable data flows, ensure effective architecture across cloud and on-premise systems, and provide leadership in optimising how data is stored, shared, and used.
You’ll collaborate with solution architects, data modelers, and stakeholders across the organisation to design innovative solutions that drive better public health outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Analyse and translate business needs into sustainable data flows.
- Evaluate and document existing data systems.
- Assess impacts of change and communicate implications clearly.
- Provide guidance to stakeholders on data-centric initiatives.
- Maintain knowledge of current and planned data estate.
- Select and evaluate modern data tooling (AWS, Azure, on-prem).
- Optimise data storage, movement, and access for efficiency.
- Develop design patterns, best practices, and thought leadership.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ensure compliance with standards, policies, and governance.
Essential Criteria
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
- Experience producing relevant data models across multiple domains.
- Ability to explain which models to use and why.
- Understanding of recognised data modelling patterns and standards.
- Knowledge across cloud and on-prem data architectures.
- Skills in BI, analytics, data quality, lineage, and catalogues.
- Ability to guide and influence stakeholders at all levels.
