Main Duties
You’ll support patients with essential care tasks alongside a Registered Nurse.
Core responsibilities include:
- Assisting with daily living (washing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
- Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
- Promoting dignity and comfort
- Maintaining accurate documentation
Advanced clinical tasks (after training):
- Blood pressure and oxygen saturation checks
- Monitoring pulse, respiration, and temperature
- Glucose testing
- ECG monitoring
- Collecting and testing urine, faecal and sputum samples
- Venepuncture and cannulation
- Aseptic non-touch technique

Nursing Care (under indirect supervision, after competency)
- Carry out delegated duties aligned with care plans
- Use initiative and sound judgment where needed
- Monitor patients and escalate concerns appropriately
- Follow infection prevention and health & safety policies
- Support patient independence and self-care
- Accurately document care delivery and communication
- Maintain equipment and clinical supplies
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team
Education, Training & Qualifications
Essential:
- NVQ/RQF Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent experience, minimum 12 months)
- GCSE Grade A–C (4+) or equivalent in English and Maths
Desirable:
- Clinical skills training
Work Experience
Essential:
- 12+ months in a health or social care setting
- Teamwork and time management experience
Desirable:
- End-of-life care experience
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Basic IT and documentation skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision to a high standard
