Overview
Durham University (Estates & Facilities Directorate) is seeking an experienced Senior Security Risk Manager to lead and develop protective (physical) security across the institution. The role is strategic, covering counter-terrorism, crime prevention, compliance, and overall safety for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement the University’s protective security strategy
- Advise senior leaders on threats, vulnerabilities, and compliance (including Martyn’s Law)
- Oversee security frameworks, policies, and risk assessments
- Support refurbishment and new-build projects with robust security planning
Person Specification
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience
- Professional qualification in Protective Security Risk Management (crime prevention & counter-terrorism)
- Proven leadership experience within a complex organisation
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Desirable: ASIS PSP/CPP, Chartered Security Professional
