Senior Security Risk Manager

Salary: £47,389–£56,535 per annum

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Overview

Durham University (Estates & Facilities Directorate) is seeking an experienced Senior Security Risk Manager to lead and develop protective (physical) security across the institution. The role is strategic, covering counter-terrorism, crime prevention, compliance, and overall safety for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement the University’s protective security strategy
  • Advise senior leaders on threats, vulnerabilities, and compliance (including Martyn’s Law)
  • Oversee security frameworks, policies, and risk assessments
  • Support refurbishment and new-build projects with robust security planning

Person Specification

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Professional qualification in Protective Security Risk Management (crime prevention & counter-terrorism)
  • Proven leadership experience within a complex organisation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Desirable: ASIS PSP/CPP, Chartered Security Professional
