Job Description
Reporting to the Social and Digital Media Manager, this exciting role will help implement social and digital media strategies at the University of Glasgow. The postholder will work within the Marketing and Communications team, contributing to campaigns that raise the University’s local and global profile.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of a university-wide social media plan aligned with University of Glasgow branding.
- Manage and monitor content across platforms (Facebook, X, Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn).
- Create original and engaging content (video, Reels, TikToks, graphics, copy).
- Use analytics tools such as Brandwatch to monitor and audit performance.
- Maintain and update internal social media guidelines.
- Produce a content calendar covering key university events.
- Mentor and support student content creators.
- Provide customer service through social channels and manage reputation issues.
- Collaborate on campaigns for prospective/current students, alumni, and stakeholders.
- Stay informed on emerging social media trends and innovations.
- Provide reporting and analysis to inform communications strategy.
- Advise on crisis communications and represent the university at relevant events.
- Flexibility may be required for out-of-hours responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of social and digital media trends and tools.
- Proven ability to produce creative and compelling content for multiple platforms.
- Excellent writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
- Experience with analytics and social media reporting.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with standard office and digital media tools.
Desirable
- Familiarity with the higher education sector.
- Knowledge of the University of Glasgow.
- Qualifications in marketing, communications, or public relations.
- Understanding of accessibility and usability in digital content.
- Experience using design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
