Technical Supervisor
Location: Brighton, UK
Salary: £34,610 – £38,784 per annum (Grade 6, pro rata if part-time)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time up to 36.5 hours per week (flexible working options may be considered within core hours 8:30 – 17:30)
Overview
We are seeking a Technical Supervisor to support research at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). In this role, you will take responsibility for:
- Managing and maintaining tissue culture suites and microbiology laboratories.
- Overseeing a rapidly expanding Tissue Bank and its associated sample database.
- Assisting the Technical Services Manager with health & safety and other regulatory compliance.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced scientist looking to pursue a technical career in laboratory-based research management.
About You
We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive, and organised individual who can work independently as well as part of a team. You should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with a flexible approach to work.
Essential qualifications & experience:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive knowledge of mammalian cell culture techniques and molecular biology.
- Experience in processing and analysing human tissue samples.
- Strong understanding of health & safety in laboratories (biological and chemical hazards).
- Experience with database management, ideally using specialist software packages.
- Awareness of the Human Tissue Act regarding acquisition and storage of human samples.
Desirable:
- Previous laboratory management or supervisory experience.
