 Overview

AXA XL is seeking a motivated Underwriting Assistant to join its Middle Office Operations team in London. This role provides a strong foundation for anyone looking to start or grow a career in the insurance industry. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support the underwriting team by managing administrative processes, handling data, maintaining documentation, and ensuring the efficient running of the policy lifecycle.

You will primarily support the Fine Art & Specie business unit, working closely with underwriters and internal teams to ensure accuracy and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters in recording risk details in internal systems
  • Retrieve and provide data for underwriters accurately and on time
  • Liaise with underwriters to ensure accurate interpretation of data
  • Maintain underwriting documentation and policy files
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers where required
  • Work with the Credit Control team to track and monitor premium payments
  • Respond to control and exception reports and ensure data accuracy
  • Support the development of statistical and reporting requirements
  • Monitor renewal lists and coordinate renewal activities
  • Assist in delegated underwriting renewal processes
  • Work closely with shared services teams to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Support operational projects and other ad-hoc tasks

Required Skills

  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Teams
  • Experience with system data entry and administrative processes
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills

  • A-Level qualification or equivalent business experience
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables and formulas
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work proactively
